Week 3, Day 2 -- Mithos

[ It had taken Towa some time to consider what she should really do with the things she's learned. In the end, there's really very little that she can do about it. But it wasn't like she knew from the start how much to believe. Their memories had been sketchy from the start, being static in places and completely gone in others. It was entirely unnatural. So it seemed fine to doubt it. But...

Locking it all away wasn't possible either. And ignoring it completely-- was like lying to herself. She was worried. Really worried.

And after what she'd said before, she felt like there was at least one person she should share the truth with. ]

Mithos? Sorry if I'm bothering you. Do you have a minute to talk?

[ For a moment there's silence as Mithos debates whether or not he wanted to talk. But it seems he's concerned people enough as it is so talking now would probably be better rather than later.]

... Yeah. One moment...

[ He goes over to the door and opens it, stepping aside so Towa can step in. He looks... exhausted. And miserable. But he tries to give her a small smile regardless. ]

Come in.

[For a change, Towa doesn't really have much reason to smile either. It's not like last time. She can't say that all the reason's she's here are good.]

Both of us took things really hard last week and then... again today...

[It's for her as much as it is for him. She's not great company either, for as much as she's trying not to isolate herself.]

But more than that I wanted to... I wanted to talk about the things I remembered with someone. I wasn't sure if I should bother anyone with it, but-- it might effect others, so I decided it was worth trying.

[ Mithos looks away when she says that. ]

I just ... didn't want to see others' reactions to it.

[ He's honestly not even all that sure how to feel about the motive itself right now. Not after last week and ... not after the night before. In fact when Towa mentions something he remembers he tenses. Just for a moment though, as he forces himself to relax and look at Towa. ]

... Alright. What about it did you wish to talk about.

[ His voice is steady but ... there's definitely an edge to it. ]

On Monday I experienced something strange. I... remembered something. Or at least... I think I did.

It was something so incredible that I... I don't know whether or not to believe it or not. It was beyond all reason and... not in a good way, exactly.

I want to believe that they're planting these memories to unsettle us and get us to do what they want. But... I don't have any proof that it's fake either.

[ Mithos tenses again. And this time he doesn't let it go. But he tries to keep steady at least while... Towa is explaining.

Really ... he wants to believe that it isn't true. That it's something that is implanted in them to hurt them. But ... something deep inside him is telling him otherwise. ]

So then ... what do you believe they are. Are they something we should believe in or not. Is there ... something inside you that's telling you that it's one or the other?

I guess... the part of me that worries is afraid it's true. But I've been told that I worry too much, and maybe they're right.

But that memory really is so crazy that... it is hard to actually believe in it. And there are a lot of things that don't add up. So it's quite possible that I'm just being paranoid.

[ Mithos is quiet for a moment. After a while he speaks, but it's nothing more than a whisper just loud enough for Towa to hear it. ]

I guess it ... depends on what kind of memory it is. And whether you find more reason to believe or if it's ... truly just you being paranoid.

There was... this giant blood red castle. A battle between two giant robots...

But there are still some things that... when I think about them, my head hurts.

[She bites her lip.]

I have a theory, but... I don't have anything to back it up. I think... the memories that were taken from us... they may have been tampered with before they were returned to us. Why else take them? i think giving them back to us this way... I think they just want to confuse us more.

So... I'm scared. But I don't want to lose hope either.

[Because. The other option is...]

...if I'm wrong then...

[ Mithos' expression darkens. As much as he wants to believe that they were tampered with unlike Towa his ... his doesn't leave him with many headaches. In fact, his was mostly clear which only made it hurt even worse. ]

But... is that really the case for everyone? What if their memories come back more clearly? As if they were ... simply forgotten.

[ A memory that happens right after what he remembers before all this. Before that ... there's just one thing that isn't clear to him. ]

Minato has the same problem I do, with the pains. I think... it just means that there are memories still missing related to the ones they gave back. Even if I focus on those things, I can't learn anything at all from it.

If yours is clear then maybe they gave it all back in one piece.

I don't know if they can be trusted. There's... a lot that's different about the way each of us have gotten these back, the contents of them, how much we've remembered...

It just... seems really suspicious.

I know if it was just me, there's no way I could have forgotten... something like... like that. Even if details got lost over time I know there's... one thing I never would have forgotten.

I ... did have one thing that, for some reason, all it did was give me a headache whenever I tried to remember it. No matter how much I look at it, even now, it doesn't come back.

[ He'll glance at the Eternal Sword as he says that before turning back to Towa. After that he's... quiet, for a while. ]

... Mine was something I would have never been able to forget either.. There's... there's no way ... and more than anything I want it to not be true.

[ Another pause while he tries to maintain his composure. ]

But ... the pain I'm feeling ... it's so real that I can't turn away from it.

[She was afraid... as much as she didn't want to face the possibility, she knew that if it was true then there were others suffering even worse than she was. People like Mithos.

Mithos...

[She doesn't know what to do-- so she hugs him tightly.]

I think I knew all along. But... I didn't want to accept it. Because I didn't want to think about all the people I care about suffering with that knowledge. You, everyone back home... a lot of people have it worse than I do. While I forgot everything, Rean's probably been blaming himself this whole time and I just... got to keep living like...

[Her voice breaks a bit and for a moment she's silent, only because she can't speak.]

And you... I knew what it could mean so I... I'm so sorry.

[ The moment Towa hugs him all composure that Mithos managed to keep a grasp of during the conversation disappears. He hugs back, clenching tightly. ]

I-- I didn't want to either but... but it hurt so much that I... [ He breaks down into sobs. He could have tried to deny it all he wanted but there was a part of him that knew it was true the moment the memory was regained.

And the fact that he had forgotten ... only made it worse. ]

She... she was all I had... and she's gone.

[ Sure there's... his two other companions but .. they aren't his sister. ]

That's not true. Not anymore.

[She squeezes even tighter, just for a moment. She has to sniffle, before she can talk again, but it helps her speak a little more clearly through the tears.]

We may not be blood, but-- after everything we've had to go through together, I consider you a part of my family.

For a while now I've wondered if... I'll ever truly get to see Erebonia again. That's why... everyone here is extremely important to me. If it weren't for you guys, there's no way I would have been able to move forward.

It hurts. It's going to hurt so much, even in the future. But it's important to never stop moving forward.

[...]

Like someone once said--

"...you’re all going to be in for some tough times ahead… I can’t go any farther now… but you can… so keep going forward… Relentlessly, without looking back..."

[It's hard to get out. But she knows... they both needed to hear it.]

F-Family...?

[ He ... never considered the thought. Ever. For all his life Martel was the only one he had ever really considered as family. Kratos and Yuan ... there were his Mentor and uh ... comrade respectively. But family? That's a thought that never crossed his mind.

But if what Towa said is true then maybe... ]

If .. If we never go back then ... I wouldn't mind staying here with you and... a few others.

[ It's a difficult thing to say considering the situation but really ... it's not as if he has a place back home. Martel was his home. All he can do now is ... cling to what he does, somehow, have here.

But at the same time... ]

I wonder... if I can...

[ Moving forward is something he was never really good at doing on his own. Would they be able to help him move forward like his sister could? There's a feeling his heart that he just... can't seem to let go. ]

[It makes her so happy to hear him say that. As long as she's here, she wants him to know that he doesn't have to bottle it all up and try to fight his way through his feelings alone.]

The way I see it... moving forward means one step at a time traveling towards the future. Not looking back doesn't mean forgetting-- everything that's important to us, even the painful things are things we have to carry with us... because we are who we are today because of them.

Maybe they can't walk by our side but-- we're carrying a part of them with us every day. That's why... I know they'd want us to live life to the fullest.

It will be different, and it won't always be easy...

But we aren't alone either. If it becomes too much-- it's okay to lean on others.

[ Mithos nods to what Towa is saying. As much as his hurts and as much as he's never going to be able to forget this pain, maybe it should be alright to keep going forward and leaning on others.

Except Mithos has one, major, issue with this. ]

I'll ... I'll try, Towa. I know I'll always carry a piece of her with me. And I'm never going to forget my sister. Or what they did to her.

[ Pretty sure the latter wasn't part of it Mithos-- ]

But what if the people I try to lean on also disappear? What am I to do then? What if none of this... works.

[ In a place like this there's ... things that can go wrong, after all ]

It's okay to not be certain. It's not easy, I know.

No one can say that they'll be there forever. That's... just part of life. And where we are now, the risks are even greater. That's the truth.

But none of us are going down without a fight. And I don't want you to either.

Even if something happens to me, I'm always going to be there for you. Martel too. Those precious memories that you hold close to your heart can be your strength someday too.

[ Mithos is quiet for a moment. The idea of something happening to Towa hurts, and it's very likely because she's like a sister figure. Just like Martel. But eventually he slowly nods. If Towa wants him to try then he'll try.

Just like how he tried because Martel told him to. ]

You're right ... I won't go down without a fight... But can you promise me that you won't, either?

Even if we can't be together forever, I'd at least want to stay here with out until we're out.

[ He doesn't want to to become a memory too soon ... ]

Heehee. I promise. I might be small, but I did attend a military school. I'm mightier than I look.

[After all, she wants that too. If she could, she'd like them all to be able to stay together like this until they could find their way home again. And with all their precious people with them.]

But let's make it official.

[Giggling, she holds up her pinky finger.]

[ Mithos laughs lightly at that ]

I don't doubt that! I'm not much taller than you, but I'm not someone that should be underestimated either.

[ When Towa raises his pinky Mithos' eyes widen slightly. An official promise ... alright ... he can do that. ]

.. Right!

[ He'll hold up his and connect it with Towa's pinky ]

It's a promise.
